Simplifying Custom Mobile App Development with PhoneGap and React Native

Mobile applications have become a necessity for businesses irrespective of their size. If you are thinking that you can’t afford to own a dedicated app for your business, the fact is that you can’t afford to survive and sustain without one.

And the good news is that developing and deploying a mobile application is much easier now; thanks to development frameworks like PhoneGap, React Native, etc.

We have been empowering many businesses to better engage their customers or employees with our mobile app development services for more than a decade. There are basically three approaches to mobile application development that you can take:

1. Native mobile app development

2. Hybrid mobile app development with PhoneGap

3. Build native apps with JavaScript and React

Building application in native language

If you want to build an application from the scratch in native language you would need to have a few development experts such as Swift or Objective-C developer for iOS, a Java developer for Android and a C++ developer for Windows platform.

Although, this approach allows the most control to developers and best performance to an application within a particular platform, it brings some challenges too.

You have to get your code written separately for each platform because the Objective-C code for iOS will not work for Windows and the Java code for Android will not work for iOS.

Hence, native mobile app development would be relatively expensive as you would have to pay to multiple developers to write applications in multiple languages for multiple platforms.

If you are a small business then this approach could be a drain on your budget but nothing to worry as the second approach could be a better option for your business.

Building web views with PhoneGap

This approach of mobile app development is just like using one-size-fits-all service. However, businesses that cannot afford custom mobile app development can leverage PhoneGap for easy and faster app development.

This hybrid mobile app development approach would obviously not have same performance or capabilities like native application. However, you can reuse your existing web development skills and build application using HTML, CSS and JavaScript.

You can create an app with a single codebase that runs across multiple platforms; thus you can always reach your audience effectively regardless of their device.

Moreover, you can access native features like camera or GPS through PhoneGap. There are also other frameworks such as Ionic or Apache Cordova that take this second approach.

Build native apps with JavaScript and React

Facebook has developed a framework called React Native for building its own mobile applications. This framework takes third approach.

This framework allows mobile app development experts to build a single application by utilizing native language components and deploy it across all leading platforms like Android, iOS and Windows.

The best thing about the mobile applications developed by React Native is that they come with native performance and capabilities.

Xamarin is another framework that takes this same approach like React Native. However, it uses the C++ language and thus enables developers accustomed with .NET development to create a single application with cross-platform compatibility.

By now you might have understood that frameworks like PhoneGap, React Native, Xamarin and others make mobile app development an ease as well as relatively inexpensive than native mobile app development.

Of course, native mobile app development has its own benefit but instead of operating in the digital world without a business app, it would be wise to go for hybrid app development.
